Lovely pics, facinating post, Irina. I only know the wetlands of the Delta, birdwatching. Not much left on land or water compared to the travel-diaries of 19th or even mid-20th visitors, as I'm sure you know
Yes, but there are many plans for more habitat restoration. The fishing practices are very well regulated. It takes time. The Communist regime didn't care about any of it, so we are now fixing that. Anyway, I'm sure you know Nick Thorpe's book 'Danube', which is not necessarily about the environment in the Delta, but offers a fresher journey along the riverbanks than the travel books of the 19th century. Of course, your book (is it Squirrel Pie?) also provides a fresh perspective on things.
What a wonderful storyteller you are, Irina! My husband got me Danube’for Easter and I have been reading it slowly as I want to make the story last longer, while I drool over your recipes and try to decide what to cook first 😁
Now I want to fly to those stunning places you mentioned.
Maybe we can go together x
You read my mind! If I ever go one day, it’s going to be with you — as both a friend and a guide.
🤗🤗

Thank you very much, Theodora.
